Monomers
Monomers are the Building Blocks of Biomolecules. Examples of Monomers include Monosaccharides, Fatty Acids, Amino Acids, etc.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates give us sugar, which we can convert into glucose, Carbohydrates are present in Bread and Pasta. They are a fast source of energy which we need in our daily lives
CHO
:
C
arbon,
H
ydrogen,
O
xygen
The Monomer for Carbohydrates is Monosaccharides
These Elements make up Carbohydrates
Lipids
Lipids are fats, having too much of them is extremely unhealthy. They are present in Ice Cream and Pizza. Burning them helps maintain fitness. Excess lipids are required to burn if in the event your Carb supply has run out during a physical activity
CHO
:
C
arbon,
H
ydrogen,
O
xygen.
The Monomers for Lipids are Fatty Acids and Glycerol
These Elements make up Lipids
Proteins
Proteins are very healthy to consume on a regular basis. They are present in Eggs and Whey, Beans and Meat, etc.
CHON
:
C
arbon,
H
ydrogen,
O
xygen,
N
itrogen
The Monomer for Protein is Amino Acid
These Elements make up Proteins
Nucleic Acid
Nucleic Acids contain genetic material. They are present in our DNA
CHONP
:
C
arbon,
H
ydrogen,
O
xygen,
N
itrogen,
P
hosphorous
The Monomer for Nucleic Acid is Nucleotides
These Elements make up Nucleic Acid
Macro and Micro Nutrients
Macro Nutrients are Nutrients that your body requires in a large amount. Examples include Carbs and Lipids
Micro Nutrients are Nutrients that your body requires in a small amount. Examples include Vitamins and Minerals
