Depression has increased at the same time that everyone had to stay at home, universities and schools closed and social distancing measures causing huge disruptions to everyday life, changing the way people live, work, study and interact (Osea Giuntella, 2020).
The main psychological impact is elevated rates of stress or anxiety (Organisation, 2021).
However, quarantine caused levels of loneliness, depression, harmful alcohol and drug use, and self-harm or suicidal behaviour are also expected to rise (Organisation, 2021).

“73% have felt the need to ask for help concerning their physical and mental well-being” (Unicef, 2020).
The separation from your loved ones, having no freedom, being bored, and uncertainty can cause a deterioration in one’s mental health (Bilal Javed, 2020).
Children and teenagers being away from their school friends, colleageus or their friends in general can cause problems (Bilal Javed, 2020). They can experience anxiety, distress, social isolation and an abusive environment can affect their mental health (Bilal Javed, 2020).
Other feelings they experienced
• Excessive crying and annoying behavior
• Increased sadness, depression, or worry

• Changes in eating habits
The pandemic has led to a decrease in preventive screenings because some patients have been hesitant to see their doctor (Howland, 2021).
Eating healthy during the pandemic is difficult as many people were afraid to go to the shops because they didn’t want to be infected, so they stayed at home and ate food that wasn’t their normal diet (Health, 2021). Many people were stressed and anxious about this pandemic which created them to eat less and not what they usually eat (Health, 2021).
If you’re staying at home with other people, try to eat at least one meal together each day. It can help dampen feelings of isolation, and help you practice mindful eating. Cooking together can also help you connect with others and ease the stress (Health, 2021).
High rates of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychological distress and stress were discovered in the population during the pandemic (Jiaqi Xiong, 2020).
