Pathophysiology
The microscopic scabies mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays its eggs

Intense itching occurs in the area where the mite burrows. The urge to scratch may be especially strong at night.

Clinical Manifestation
Thin, irregular burrow tracks made up of tiny blisters or bumps on your skin
Itching, often severe and usually worse at night

Nursing Management

To prevent infection, teach the patient to wash hands before to contact with other patients
To relieve pain, provide rest period to promote relief, sleep and relaxation
Encourage fluids intake of 2000 to 3000 ml of water, unless contraindicated

Scabies is a skin infestation caused by a mite known as the Sarcoptes scabiei. Untreated, these microscopic mites can live on your skin for months.
