Integumentary System
The integumentary system is the body's largest organ, accounting for 15-20% of total body mass. Our skin, hair, and nails are all part of it. It serves as a physical, chemical, and biological barrier. The skin regulates body temperature and prevents water loss. It conveys touch, pain, and pleasure sensations and regulates body temperature by secreting perspiration. Hair moisturizes the scalp, which secretes pheromones that cool or warm our heads. Our fingers, which are a vital instrument for safeguarding ourselves and supplying food, shelter, and sensations, are protected by our nails. When the body is damaged by open wounds, infectious organisms can enter the body, making us the most vulnerable.
