        It was characterized by the belief that people could comprehend and control the universe by means of reason. It gave rise to the application of scientific method to social issues and hence society was seen as a object of study.

        Enlightenment thinkers had a practical goal to create a better and rational world.
        
        Enlightenment philosophers were inclined towards rejecting beliefs in traditional/feudal authority.
        
        Here the main goal was to articulate fundamental relationships in the universe that could explain the many varied ways that these relationships can be expressed in the empirical world.
