Receiver/decoding
-
overlapping fields of experience (common ground) between sender and receiver will ensure the decoded message matches the encoded message
Noise
Noise refers to the extraneous, unplanned interference in the communications process
-
Response and feedback
Response: Reveivers reactions after decoding the message (eg. awarness, sales)
-
Closes the loop by allowing the sender to monitor is the message is decoded as intended i.e effective communication
Response models
Traditional: each state poses different communication objectives to guide planning (cognitive, affective, behavioural). Measurement of relevant objectives at each stage is possible but a fixed progression through the stages is not universal
-
Cognitive processing
Theory of cognition: in response to exposure, thoughts influence attitudes and behavioural intent
-
-
Cognitive responses
Product / message thoughts (are directed at product of service and the claims established in the message) (based on arguments or counter arguments)
Source oriented thoughts (directed at the source of the (communication) (source derrogation or fostering)
