General Nutrition

certain essential nutrients are necessary and must be obtained through diet (can't be synthesised by the animal)

relations of nutrition, feeding, digestion and absorption in vertebrates and most invertebrates (nutritional needs --> feeding --> digestive and fermentative breakdown --> absorption --> nutrients delivred --> negative feedback)
digestive breakdown = mechanical, enzymatic, acids/chemical. enzymes can be species specific and diet optimised
fermentation breakdown = some species specialise in this eg. ruminants (microbial symbiosis), happens a little in most organisms

converted and stored or burnt for energy (stripped of it's amino group by an enzyme catalysed deamination reaction)
when do animals burn protein for energy? --> doesn't like to, last resort, so many other uses and low energy output

transport: plasma & milk (highly soluble, energy for brain and muscles)

Digestion
breaks coarse food items into smaller parts to be absorbed and distributed - physical and (bio)chemical reactions
