Layers of the Earth image - Coggle Diagram
Layers of the Earth
Chemical Model
There are three large divisions inside the planet
The crust
is divided into plates
principal minerals found in the crust are:
Oxygen
Silicon
Aluminum
Iron
Calcium
Sodium
Potassium
Magnesium
The continental crust can be 70 km thick in areas with mountains and 7 km thick on the ocean floor
The mantle
Consist mainly of:
Silica
Iron
Magnesium
Upper mantle
The upper mantle is 200 km thick
Is in a liquid state
Lower mantle
The lower mantle ends where the core starts at 2,900 km under the surface
Its, viscosity is grater
Te core
The core´s temperature varies between 5,000 and 6,000 °c
It is mainly composed of iron and nickel
Physical Model
Lithosphere
Is made up of the crust and part of the upper mantle
It is between 100 and 250 km thick
Asthenosphere
Is the layer that starts at the edge of the lithosphere anad ends 660 km below
It is made up of a fluid with elastic and plastic properties
Mesosphere
Consist of a more viscous fluid than the asthenosphere
This layer includes both the upper and the lower parts of the mantle
Outer core
Is liquid
Is located 5,133 km below the earth´s surface
Inner core
Is solid and is its center is 6,378 km below earth´s surface
