Research issues
Demand Characteristics: Any cue from the research situation or researcher that may reveal the aim of the study and participants act accordingly
-
-
Techniques
Control Groups: Used for the purpose of setting a comparison. They act as a ‘baseline group’ to help establish causation.
-
Standardisation: Using exactly the same formalized procedure for all participants in a research study
-
-
Concepts
Aim:An aim identifies the purpose of the investigation. It is a straightforward expression of what the researcher is trying to find out from conducting an investigation.
-
-
Types of experiments
-
-
Laboratory experiments:conducted under specified controlled conditions - the researcher manipulates the IV to measure the DV
due to the high levels of control the IV's and CV's can be controlled so the DV isn't negatively effected
-
since participants know they are being investigated there is an increased chance of demand characteristics
