- - - - Demand Characteristics: Any cue from the research situation or researcher that may reveal the aim of the study and participants act accordingly
      - Investigator Effects: Where investigators behaviour may affect the outcome of the research.
    - - Control Groups: Used for the purpose of setting a comparison. They act as a ‘baseline group’ to help establish causation.
      - Single Blind: Participant doesn’t know the aims of the study
      - Standardisation: Using exactly the same formalized procedure for all participants in a research study
      - Double Blind: Participant and researcher doesn’t know the aim of the study
      - Randomisation: The use of chance when designing investigations to control for the effects of bias
    - - Aim:An aim identifies the purpose of the investigation. It is a straightforward expression of what the researcher is trying to find out from conducting an investigation.

    - - Confounding Variable: other variables that have affected your results
      - Extraneous Variables: other things that could affect the DV that you are not measuring
      - Dependent Variable: the thing you are measuring
      - Independent Variable: the thing you change to see the effect on the DV
  - - - due to the high levels of control the IV's and CV's can be controlled so the DV isn't negatively effected
      - can easily be replicated
      - since participants know they are being investigated there is an increased chance of demand characteristics
      - due to the artificial nature of the experiment it lacks ecological validity
