Gr. 10 Chemistry
Acid and Base
Acids: pH level below 7. When dissociates in water, produces H+ ions and negatively charged non-metal or covalent ions
Base: pH level above 7. When dissociates, produces OH- ions and positively charged metal ions

Chemical compounds

Ionic Compounds
Formed by a metal and a non-metal. Read the metal's name first then the non-metal's name with "-ide" suffix

Ions
Anion
Negative charge, has more electrons than protons
Cation
Positive charge, has more protons than electrons
Ion Formations
Assembled by "rings", "levels". From level one and afterwards, follow the pattern of 2-8-8-8-...

Bohr-Rutherford Diagram
Multivalent Ions
Metals that have more than one possible ions. Sometimes also called transitional metals (Ex: Iron(II) and Iron (III), etc...
Polyatomic
These are ions that are made from multiple atoms, bonds covalently and act as a single ion. (Ex: NO3, PO4, etc...)
These polyatomic can also bond with another metal to form a neutral charge compound which, by itself, is a substance. (Ex: NaOH, H3PO4)
pH indicators
Universal Indicator
Universal Indicator was made of a solution that contains several compounds that can make color smoothly changes, to define the acidity or alkalinity of the solution
Litmus paper
A type of paper that when come into contact with a solution would indicate whether it is a base (paper turns blue) or an acid (paper turns red)
