Pathophysiology
Abnormal increased prostanoid
and alcosanoid secretion which inturn,
induces abnormal uterine contractions
contractions reduce uterine blood flow
leading to uterine hypoxia

Medical term for menstrual pains
Pain from first period/ after is known as primary dysmenorrhoea
Period pain caused by reproductive disorders i.e. endometriosis is known as secondary dysmenorrhoea
Nursing care plan
Nursing diagnoses
Acute pain related to uterine contractility
Imbalanced nutrition less than body requirements related to nausea and vomiting
Ineffective individual coping related to emotional excess
Nursing interventions
Perform exercises to improve blood flow to the uterus and muscle tone
Get sufficient sleep and rest to reduce congestion
Massage painful parts to reduce pain due to stimulus of therapeutic touch
Help patient identify coping skills during period covered to help them adapt to pain
Warm the abdomen to cause vasodilation and reduce uterine contractions
Administer analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents as ordered.
Pharmacological therapy
Ibuprofen 200mg tds
