Sticker system is a great way to get immediate responses from students. Stickers can be rewarded or taken away to manage behaviors. For example, if the student is not listening, you can reward those students who are listening which influences those who is not listening to suddenly pay attention to what the teacher is saying, e.g. positive reinforcement.
On the other hand, if the teacher removes stickers from the chart for not listening to the teacher or following the said instructions, students will immediately act up so they don’t lose any more stickers, e.g. negative punishment. Alternatively, you can use negative reinforcement or positive punishment to manage behavioral issues. For example, for those students who follow instructions well, they may not get any extra homework, e.g. negative reinforcement; whereas you can give extra homework to those students who are not following instructions, e.g. positive punishment.
Skinner’s positive and negative terms do not refer to person’s feeling but the addition (+) or removal (-) stimulus that is associated with reinforcement or punishment.
