How is the performer using voice, body, movement, and gestures?
Variation of voice throughout the performance
Tone
the performers tone throughout the performance was extremely loud, and it was as if he was angry at something and wanted to change something.
Volume
Example 1: 0.10 to 0.22
This time stamp was at the beginning of the performance and the performer chose to start off with an extremely loud voice. It was just one or two levels down from becoming a complete shout. The decision to raise his voice the instant the performance started portrays the emotions anger and frustration to the audience.
The performer chose to be really loud to make a point from the very start of his performance which can be seen as him saying he has now had enough of what he believes to be nonsense. It also helps to set the tone for the rest of his performance.
I also think that due to the context of his performance, his use of a high volume during his performance embodies the thought of not being heard and that in order for anyone to listen to what you have to say, you need to shout at the top of your lungs.
Exaggerated facial expressions
Examples: 23 seconds, 30 secs, 1:07, 1:50
He used a lot of facial expressions to show his feelings and to portray to the audience how he felt about this topic. It showed how much he was in character and how he really belived in it
Exaggerated hand gestures
Example: 0:49 - 0:52
Here, the performer uses hand gestures to help describe what they're talking about literally. He moves is hands in a circular motion around his face to describe "black face"
Enunciations
Eg- 0:22, 0:37 and 1:57
What is there for the audience
By the end of the performance, the audience is left with a lot to think about and possibly even left with a revelation.
The audience is also emotionally impacted by the performance because of the performer's expressions, gestures, voice, and volume.
There is definetly a lot of impact that is created on the audience in terms of feelings and perspectives
It was extremely passionate, and some very good arguments were raised through humor. It inspires the audience’s anger and urges them to pay more attention to the issue.
The performer works to bring his audience to his conclusion. He speaks powerfully and loudly to express not only his rage but also his ideologies and thoughts on the topic he was talking about.
Why did the performer choose this method?
This medium allowed the performer to channel his thoughts and emotions into his performance.
Comedic tones have also been shown to receive a more positive recognition as opposed to a more persuasive and serious perfomance.
This form of poetry is used quite often for social activism which is another reason why the performer chose this method.
