Key Concepts -
Democracy - a system of government typically through elected representatives. The concept of democracy has been around for a long time now throughout a lot of history. In most democratic society's people will elect who they want to represent them in the government.
Participation - an action of taking part in something. In Australia we participate in the running of elections or referendum's, serving on the jury or paying taxes. These help our government by the service it gives to our communities.
Justice - a type of behaviour or treatment. justice can mean a vary of different things to different cultures and societies. for some it could possibly mean payback, while others it could mean fairness.
Westminster system - is a type of parliament that incorporates a series of procedures for operating legislation. It's origination is in United Kingdom.
Rights and responsibilities - protecting the laws and things that we should do. it is an important part of living in a democracy. our rights ensure that are able to have a say in the way the country is run and that we are treated fairly. Whereas responsibilities ensure we contribute to our society in order to keep it going as a strong democracy.
Democratic values - ideals or beliefs that make society fair. It's important to understand the democratic values when examine Australian's political system.
Common Law:
Common law works by 'precedents', if a matter before the court is similar to a matter in the past the the circumstances are the same. the situation in the new case should follow the previous decision.

Common law is made by judges, it is a legal precedent established by the law and court.
Statutory Law:
statutory law are written laws that can also be called legislation (made up of 2 houses.) legislation consists of statues and delegated legislation which is rules not made by the parliament but are made by the government.
legislation is laws that are considered collectively. they are the process of making or enacting laws.

Social Issues In Australia include - homelessness. It is important that we take homelessness as an issue because there are too many people suffering out on the streets. People should be helping out shelters to help give the homeless food, water, clothing etc. In order to help the homeless we should start by helping to donate when we can to give little by little each time can go a long way.
