Railway Issues

Immigration

Higher rates of train passengers

Contributed to the growth of towns and cities

Bigger sizes for transporting goods

Better economy overall

Allowed greater trades

Easier access to places

Overtime, the railway grew and started to spread to different places

Ex. hotels, airlines, delivery and telecommunications companies.

Helped with the war

It allowed Canada to provide and transport things needed for the war

Ex. extra help, men, equipment, medical supplies

Threat of American Invasion

Less chances of invasion

North America colonies believed that joining forces with Britain was one of their only options

Citizens hoped that the confederation would prevent the U.S from invading North America

Britain was one of the strongest or even the strongest country back then, Canada joined forces for protection

U.S invasion failed

They thought that it would be easy to invade Canada

America had six times the amount of men, the British didn't really bother guarding the border, they jumped to the conclusion that Canadians were anti-British

British North America

They believed that territories would easily fall into the hands of the Americans

Many in British North America wanted to expand their territories to the West and North to prevent the U.S from conquering them

Political Deadlock

What is it

For a bill to pass in the Legislative Assembly, vote needed to be held in both Canada East and Canada West

The French and the Canadians could never agree on anything so this caused a political deadlock

Lead to confederation

Canada West and Canada East had equal representatives in the Legislative Assembly

Both groups took turns in discussion but they could never come to a conclusion, which lead to the political deadlock
