Parts of Speech
Nouns
The part of speech that names a person place or thing
There are 4 types
Common Nouns, Granite, Government, Elephant
Collective Nouns, Swarm off.. Herd of.. Gaggle of..
Proper Nouns, Cape Town, James, America
Abstract Nouns, kindness fright, bravery
Pronouns
A pronoun can replace a noun. E.G Mark = He
There are different types
Possesive= Mine, Yours, His
Demonstrative= This, that, there, those
Subjective= I, You, he she it
Reflexive= Myself, yourself, himeself
Indefinite= Anybody, Everybidy
The noun which the pronoun refers to is called the antecedent
Verbs
There are 2 types of verbs that we will look at: Action verbs and Linking Verbs
Action verbs express actions which a person, animal or force of nature can do like Driving
Linking/ Helping Verbs connect the subject to additional information about the subject
Adjective
Adjectives are words that describe or modify another thing in a sentence
They are decriptive words
Descriptive Adjectives describe the noun
Limiting Adjectives limit or specifies the noun
Adverbs
Adverbs can modify a Verb (He drove slowly), an Adjective (He drove a very fast car) or another Adverb (She moved quite slowly down the isle)
Sometimes they can be identified by the suffix "LY"
You can also ask questions like "How", "When", or "Where"

Conjunctions
These are joiner words that connects parts of a sentence
Subordinate conjunctions introduce an independent clause and indicate the relationship between the independent clause and the dependant clause
Correlative Conjunctions always appear in pairs, We use them to link equivalent sentence elements
Prepositions
They link nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence
They often begin with prepositional phrases
The prepositional phrase usually teams up with the noun, pronoun or gerund. E.G At Noon, At= Preposition, Noon= Noun of the preposition
The objective prepositions often include modifiers that add description
Sometimes the clause will be the object of preposition
