Energy and the environment
A house that needs no energy: is it posible?
It is posible but they need to put theese things in it:
Solar panels in the top of the roof
To produce electricity and to heat water pipes
High levels of insulation
High insulation windows
How well do materials reduce heat loss?
A lot of energy is used to heat a building. Will help to evaluate how much heat insulation will retain reducing the amount of energy used.
Materials
Three identical glass jars, each lid with a hole for a thermometer or temperature probe.
Three temperature probes, for the top of each jar.
Boiling water.
A towel or sock.
A piece of paper.
Method
Jar A: do not add any covering.
Jar B: add a covering of paper.
Jar C: wrap in the towel or put inside the sock.
Add the same volume of boiling water to each jar and put on the lid on firmly.
Record the temperature in each jar over the space of 1h at 5min intervals.

Current goverment iniatives include:
Regulations regarding the quality of exshaust gases from vehicles, and fuel efficiency.
Restrictions on where vehicles may go.
Taxations on fuels.
Surcharges for travelling to certain places, such as cities, at peak times.
Development of new resources
Fracking
Is a process to obatain oil or gas from shale rock by the breacking open to rocks using water, snad and chemicals.
Proppant
A material, such as sand, used to keep cracks in the shale rocks open to allow gas or oil extraction.
