Diet
Clear liquid: Clear fat-free broth, bouillon, coffee, tea, carbonated beverages, clear fruit juices, gelatin, fruit ices, popsicles

Patient Education
Have a complete medical examination before initiating a new exercise program.
Check your blood sugar (glucose).
Eat healthy.
Be active
S/s hyperglycemia

Interventions
Regular exercise is often an effective way to control your blood sugar.
Medication must be taken as directed by physician.
Follow the diabetes eating plan by eating in smaller portions and avoiding sugary beverages and frequent snacking.
Check your blood sugar and monitor your blood glucose as directed by your doctor.
Medication
Rapid-acting insulins include insulin lispro (Humalog), insulin aspart (NovoLog)
Regular insulin (Humulin R, Novolin R)
ong-acting insulins are insulin glargine (Lantus) and insulin detemir (Levemir)
hypoglycemics include sulfonylureas, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, biguanides, thiazolidinediones, meglitinides and D-phenylalanines, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, and sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors.
S/s hypoglycemia
physiologic responses include weakness, hunger, diaphoresis, tremors, anxiety, irritability, headache, pallor, and tachycardia.
Neuroglucopenic symptoms include confusion, weakness, dizziness, blurred or double vision, seizure, and, in severe cases, coma.
Interventions
unconscious patient with hypoglycemia fifty milliliters of 50% glucose solution should be administered intravenously immediately
hypoglycemia, follow the 15/15 rule. Give the conscious patient 15 g of quick-acting carbohydrate, wait 15 minutes, and retest the blood glucose.
Monitoring
By testing blood sugar with a portable electronic device called a blood sugar meter using a small drop of your blood.
monitor blood sugar levels every 2 hours for 6 hours.
