Notes On Correct Usage
- Use 'a' before aconsonant sound. (He's a student.)
- Use 'an' before a vowel sound. (I sent an e-mail.)
- Also use 'an' before a silent 'h'. (He will be here in an hour.)
- Use 'the' when referring to a particular thing. (That's the stolen car. That's the car.)
- Use these expressions with uncountable nouns:
(a piece of advice 一句劝告, a great deal of rain一场大雨, a little water很少的水, a breath of fresh air一口新鲜的空气, a lot of snow很多雪, plenty of dust很多灰尘)
For countable nouns, use these expressions: (a few cars几辆车, many houses, a box full of books, several big cities很多大城市, How many people?, plenty of seats很多座位)
