Do they have stairs? and need to use them?
YES: try to encourage them not to use them: if you can't see if they have family to help them to get up the stairs/ask about railings. WALKER NO GO UP STAIRS.

Is the patient young or appear to be fairly coordinated?
NO
Let's go with a walker!
YES: CRUTCHES!

NO: Let's try crutches?
TOO EASY?: if they are older: Quad Cane if they are younger: see if they would feel comfortable with canadian crutches?
YES: Hemiwalker is a good option!
NO: lets stick with a walker!

Does the patient have stairs? and need to use them?
NO: excellent, walker!
YES: Try to find another solution, they were not active prior to surgery, so not a great idea...maybe if they have family/sturdy railings? walker is the best option.
