Present simple
Rules for verbs in 3rd person singular (he/she/it)
Verbs ending in conson+y -> drop y, +ies
Example: cry -> cries
Verbs ending in -o, -sh, -ch, -x, -ss. -> +es
Example: kiss -> kisses.
In general -> +s
Example: work -> works.
Structure
To be:
Negative: S + am/is/are + not + complement
Question: am/is/are + S + complement?
Positive: S + am/is/are + complement
Verbs
Positive: S + verb + complement
Negative: S + do/does+ not+ verb + complement
Question: do/does+ S + verb + complement?
When to use
Do, Does
Do/Don't : I, you, we, they
Does/Doesn't : He, She, It.
am, is, are
Am: I
Is: She, he, it.
Are: You, we they
Uses
We use simple present to talk about something that is true in the present.
True in present
Example: She is 20 years old.
Future timetables/ schedules
Example: Classes begin next month..
Habits
Example: She gets up at 9 a.m. everyday.
General facts/truths
Example: Water boils at 100°C
Past simple
Structure
To be
Positive:
S+ was/were + complement
Negative:
S+ was not /were not + complement
Question:
Was/Were + S + complement?
Verbs
Positive:
S+ verb (past form) + complement
Negative:
S+ did not + verb (base form) + complement
Question:
Did+ S + verb (base form) + complement?

Used for: I, you, he, she, it, we, they.
Uses
To talk about something that has already happened or existed before now.
To express habits in the past
Example: Last year I watched a lot of TV series.
For stative verbs (have, own, be, think, believe, know, dislike, need, owe, wish)
Example: He had a lot of toys.
To express completed actions in the past
Example: I ate noodles yesterday.
Present continuous
Uses
Actions that are happening at the present
Example: He is playing COD right now.
Habits (temporary or annoying)
Example: You are always eating all the food.
Temporary situations
Example: They normaly watch Netflix, but this week they are watching Amazon.
Definitive future plans
Example: I am taking a test on Monday.
Structure
Positive:
S+ am/is/are + V-ing + complement
Negative:
S+ am/is/are (not) + V-ing + complement
Question:
Am/is/are + S + V-ing + complement?
