elements and the periodic table
what was the Dalton model?
atoms could not be broken down/divided or destroyed
atoms of the same element are the same , atoms of different elements are different.
atoms join with other elements to make substances.
why do atoms have an equal number of protons and electrons?
atoms are neutral because the protons and electrons cancel each other out . protons being +1 and electrons being -1.
What is the Relative mass and charge for protons neutrons and electrons ?
protons = +1 ( RC) 1 (RM)
Neutrons = 0 ( RC) 1 ( RM)
Electrons= -1 (RC) 1/1836 (RM)
he identified errors in Dalton's theory.
elements moved away from negatively charged plate and went towards the positive.Meaning particles must have a negative chrage.
did a cathode ray experiment .
PLUM PUDDING MODEL--negative electrons are scattered through soft lobs of positive charged material.
What was Thomson's findings?
What was
Rutherford's findings?
did an experiment .
(shot a beam at a sheet of gold foil)
found that the beam didn't just go through the gold foil it scattered into different areas.(deflected)
Rutherford model mostly empty space. electrons travel in random paths around the nucleus.
What / where is the mass number ?
the mass number is the top number and it is the total number of protons and neutrons
How do isotopes affect RAM
isotopes are the same elements with different numbers of neutrons.
Where is most of the mass found in an atom ?
in the nucleus.
how are elements arranged in the periodic table
