• If you’re traveling in a Spanish-speaking country, know that this will happen to you in touristy areas and either just deal with it or try to hang out in non-touristy areas. For example, when I was in Buenos Aires a few years ago, when I was in the trendy parts of Palermo, I got answered in English 99 percent of the time. When I was in Caballito, no one spoke a word of English to me. In touristy areas, many people depend on English for their livelihoods and are just used to using their English a lot and probably are proud of their skills.
