ABSOLUTE AND RELATIVE POVERTY
ABSOLUTE POVERTY
- A condition where people's income is too low to enable them to meet their basic needs
An example of absolute poverty includes:
A 12-year-old boy who has never been to see a doctor or attended school.
RELATIVE POVERTY
- A condition where people are poor in comparison to others in the country. Their income is too low to enable to enjoy the average standard of living in their country
An example of someone in relative poverty includes:
A person who does not have a job and relies on government assistance to maintain.
