Teaching-Learning Critical Pathways (TLCP)
Why?
Setting high expectations for students.
Using assessment for learning to guide instruction.
Providing frequent, useful and useable student feedback.
Creating effective classroom discussions which elicit evidence of learning.
Classrooms can be organized in a practical, precise and highly personalized manner for each student, with the intended outcome being increased achievement for all.
HWDSB and TLCP
A model used to organize actions for teaching and student learning.
As far as I know, my board is not involved in the TLCP process.
Some schools are involved in PLCs, but there is very limited information on this.
Steps
Stage 1 - Getting Started
Gather evidence.
Determine area of greatest need.
Build clusters of expectations related to the area of greatest need.
Review current practice.
Design classroom assessments (rubric, data wall).
Stage 2 - PLC "Check-in"
Plan a six-week learning block and build collective understanding about how you are going to teach it.
Share evidence of student learning (PLC check-ins).
Have students complete the agreed-upon culminating task.
Focus on Big Ideas and and strategies to support students learning.
Include all elements of a comprehensive literacy plan.
Stage 3 - Reflection and Next Steps
Teachers engage in teacher moderation sessions - defining next steps.
Engage in reflection.
Collaborative assessment of student work.
Develop a Culminating Task
Agree upon instructional approaches
Identify critical thinking strategies
Differentiate instruction
Plan classroom actions for teaching learning
