Charity and PT dreamt of a life together from when they were young
he realises that family is more important than any other dream
his father was a taylor and his father passed away when he was young leaving him to fend for himself
he enjoys the fame and the money and it shades his perspective - he loses sight of what is important
he chases fame and money because of Charity's fathers reaction to him.
He gives the misfits a real family
a people person - very convincing and infectious man
when he has his circus, he wears a coat with tails and a top hat
Inner Conflict - desire for money to prove himself which led to him overlooking the really important things. He solves this by choosing his family and handing the circus over

Phillip Carlyle
He was miserable in his life before the circus
He is part of high society and he produced plays that were terrible but he knew how to draw the crowds.
His misery led to substance abuse
Falls in love with Anne Wheeler
PT and Phillip enter into an agreement to work together - Phillip is shunned by high society for this
He was put under lots for pressure by his parents
Inner Conflict: between being happy or doing what is seen as right by higher society. He solves it by standing up to his parents and choosing his own happiness.
In the end, Phillip invests in the circus and PT allows him to run the circus
Lettie Lutz AKA The Bearded Lady
She is a talented singer and becomes a leader amongst the performers
Inner Conflict - on self acceptance and she learns that she is good enough and that she adds value and she finds family within the circus
She had facial hair
She is inspiring and does not allow the performers to be put down - This is me
She was ashamed of the way she looked.
PT's daughters adore her - and she joins the circus from their encouragement, she also comforts his daughters when they are scared.
Lettie represents the viewer's insecurities - those things we are ashamed of and need to accept within ourselves
