Key Concepts
Democracy:
A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives
The Westminster System:
is a parliamentary system of government that was developed in England, which is now a constitute country within the United Kingdom
Justice:
Justice means the application of the rule of law, that is the certainty of applying legal rules developed over centuries to resolve disputes between citizens and the citizen and the state
Participation:
A good citizens that contribute in society and participate voting in serving on jury or paying taxes
Rights and Responsibilities:
The entitlements, duties and ensure we are able to have a say in the way our country is run, and are treated fairly in the process
Democratic Values:
Values that reflect a society's democratic way of life. Respect, equality, fairness and freedom are the main values of Australia's democratic values
Australias government
Is a federation of 6 states, with three branches of government and three levels of government.
Is a constitutional monarchy where the Queen is the head of state and the government is organised around a constitution.
The governor-general is the head of state with the prime minister advising them how they use their powers
Legislature
Upper: the Senate
is made out of 76 senators, 12 for each state and 2 for each territory, each representing the interest of voters in an electoral division
