The Role of Teachers in Managing a Conducive Learning Environment to Build Positive Relationships in the Classroom
Create Classroom Rules
Teachers can ask students to express how they prefer to be treated in order to create classroom rules.
Teachers and students could come to an agreement to determine the behaviors that are appropriate in the classroom ("Seven Strategies for," 2008).
Teachers and students can elicit a list of respectful and kind behaviors. For example, raise your hand to ask questions or respect and listen to the teachers/classmates.
Integrate Student's Interest into the Lesson
Develop a Sense of Community and Belongingness
Every individual is unique and different. Every students comes from various families, has different values, beliefs and religion.
This uniqueness is something that has to be accepted, respected and even celebrated (Mill, 2019).
It is the teachers' responsibilities to establish an environment that encourages each student to not only learn, but also to have fun while respecting others around him/her (Mill, 2019).
Every student has a strong interest in something. Teachers can incorporate students' interests and passions into the lesson to make the most of them.
Teachers that take the effort to do so will notice students' improvement in participation, involvement and overall learning experience (Meador, 2019).
The extra effort teachers put in to include students' interests in the learning process will be appreciated by the students.
Celebrate Success
When students' achievements are recognized and shared by the teachers with other students, it creates a sense of achievement and fosters healthy learning behavior.
Teachers can also discuss the strategies used by the students to achieve such achievement (Erwin, 2016).
This will act as a guide for other students to use the same learning strategies to improve their performance in the same manner.
Employ Games in the Classroom
Games help students to reduce stress and foster a closer relationship with one another while they learn.
Board games are fantastic tools when teaching strategy, cooperation and leadership to students. For example, board game like Scrabble helps to improve language mastery.
Teachers can also use games as teaching aids in order to assist students in absorbing knowledge better and remembering the lesson longer ("5 Ways to," 2020).
