statistics

data

Data from a primary source means the data has been collected directly from the source by a person or organisation.

Data from a secondary source has been collected by someone else before we use it,

A census is when we collect data from every member of a group (the whole population)

A sample is when data is collected from a smaller group of the population.

collum graph

A label on the x-axis and the y-axis

An even scale on each axis (the gaps between numbers/categories are the same and evenly spaced)

A gap between the columns

A title explaining what it is about

line graph

Continuous data can be represented on a line graph and time is usually on the x-axis (horizontal)

Eg. Travel graphs/distance-time graphs are a special type of line graph that describe a journey

A line graph is a set of points connected by straight lines segments

frequency histogram

A frequency histogram is a column graph with no gap between the columns and axis labels in the middle of the column. The column height is the frequency of each score

A frequency polygon is a line graph that joins the middle top of each column. The graph starts and ends on the horizontal axis.

median

mean

sum of scored divided by number of score

Score with the highest frequency (occurs the most

Can have no mode or many modes

The middle value when the scores are in ascending order

For an even number of scores, average the middle two

highest score−lowest score
