Computer Misuse Act 1990
Things not allowed
- Unauthorised access without permission
- Point 1 + intention to steal, destroy or change data
- Data changed, stolen or destroyed or installation of malware
- Making software for the specific purpose of breaking the Computer Misuse Act
These four rules cover a range of offenses making things such as hacking, computer fraud, virus creation and blackmail illegal.
Offences and punishments
Unauthorised access to computer material - Up to six months in prison and/ or a fine up to a £5000 fine
Unauthorised access to the computer materials with intent to commit a further crime - Up to a five year prison sentence and/ or an unlimited fine

Making, supplying or obtaining anything which can be used in computer misuse offences - Up to a ten year prison sentence and/ or an unlimited fine
