Families migrated with their herds in units of up to five to six families (Nomadism). This tradition has all but disappeared in recent times with only a single herder accompanying their reindeer alone while their families reside in permanent modern housing.

Traditionally, Gatki was made from reindeer leather and sinew
It is now more commonly made from wool, cotton, or silk.
Women's gákti typically consist of a dress, a fringed shawl and boots/shoes made of reindeer fur or leather.
