Devil's Advocate
Understanding that having a primary source to account for such a tragic event is opportune. Most first-person accounts are often true and provide, believed-to-be, truthful information and are always welcome when reporting.
My Opinion
With such harrowing events, priority of accurate reporting should be common place. It bewilders me that CBS aired this piece without having enough proof and factual evidence. The entire network could be discredited for this article because of how easy it was to find the truth behind Davies' accounts.
It was incredibly inappropriate for Davies' to seek some kind of fame from such a tragic event. To give a different account to the FBI and turn around and fabricate a new story is completely unethical and morally corrupt.
My Reaction
It disgusts me that Davies felt comfortable enough to fabricate such an unrealistic story thinking that he would gain something from it. CBS also not taking responsibility for their faulty reporting is horrid because their mistake could have easily been corrected and they would still be seen as a reputible source of news. By completely brushing it under the rug is completely unethical.
