What Is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions.
The ability to express and control emotions is essential, but so is the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others.
How is emotional intelligence measured?
Several different assessments have emerged to measure levels of emotional intelligence. These tests are generally divided into two types:
Self-report tests
They are the most common because they are the easiest to manage and rate. In such tests, respondents respond to questions or statements by rating their own behaviors.
Capacity tests
They involve people responding to situations and then evaluating their abilities. These tests often require people to demonstrate their skills, which are then scored by a third party.
Components:
Perception of emotions
Reasoning with emotions
Understanding of emotions
Managing emotions
