Chromosomes and Mitosis
chromosomes
-
-
-
each chromosome carries a large amount of gene. different genes control different characteristics e.g. hair colour, eye colour.
body cells normally have 2 copies of each chromosomes, one from the 'mother' and one from its 'father'
Cell cycle
define: the process of which multicellular organisms go through to provide new cells via dividing called the cell cycle
-
Growth & DNA replication
-
before division the cell has to grow and increase the amount of subcellular structures e.g. mitochondria, ribosomes.
-
-
Mitosis
-
the chromosomes line up in the centre of the cell and the cell fibers pull them apart.the two arms of the chromosomes go to opposite sides of the cell.
Membranes form around the sets of chromosomes (these will be the nuclei of the two cells) the nucleus has divided.
finally the cytoplasm and cell membrane divides, the cell now has produced two new daughter cells that contain the exact same DNA (identical to parent cell).
Binary Fission
-
-
-
-
finally the cytoplasm divides to produce 2 daughter cells (each daughter cell has one copy of the circular DNA but a various number of plasmids)
