Non Renewable & Renewable
Wind
Wind can be used to generate electricity by harnessing the power and force of wind using wind turbines
it is located on mainly coastlines because they experience more wind.
CONS
Very expensive to build and maintain the turbines
doesn't produce a huge amount of electricity
is not always a reliable source of electricity
PROS
Clean and does not harm the environment
a source of energy that will never run out
a good alternative to the harmful effects of some non-renewable energy sources.
Nuclear
expensive, will eventually run out.
PROS
not very hard to produce, clean on the environment
formed from the splitting of an atom
Oil
Oil is pumped from a well then it is moved to an oil refinery
PROS
Eeasy storage, reliable power source and easy transportation
Oil is formed by decaying matter from sea plants and animals that died millions of years ago.
CONS
Non-renewable source, burning oil products produce carbon dioxide
Solar
it can be best used in hot, sunny areas with a flat surface
captured when energy from the sun is converted into electricity, is used to heat air, and water and power appliances in public and private households
PROS
it is clean, powerful, renewable and silent
CONS
it is expensive, takes up space, and can only be used in specific places
Coal
Coal takes 100 million years to form. Dead plant matter would fall and accumulate at the bottom of swamps on the Earth's surface.
PROS
PRO-surface mining is much cheaper than underground mining and a reliable source of energy.
Coal is a fossil fuel. It comes from the remains of plants that died about 100 to 400 million years ago. Coal is a non-renewable energy source because it takes millions of years to form.
CONS
CON- A downside of surface mining is that it can leave permanent scars on the landscape.
Biomass
PROS
Biomass is always and widely available as a renewable source of energy and it is also carbon neutral.
CONS
It is very costly when importing fuels to the energy plant and these powerplants require a lot of area.
Can be used to produce a gas called methane which is mostly used in stoves and furnaces.
Can be used to generate heat by using wood, garbage.
produces enough heat so it can be used in homes for cooking and personal use
Natural Gas
natural gas is found in a variety of different underground formations
formed over millions of years from shells under the earth being compacted together
CONS
unclean and will eventually run out
PROS
powerful energy source and can be found all over the world
Non-Renewable
Renewable
Hydro
CONS
E
• Some adverse environmental impact
• Expensive up-front
• Lack of available reservoirs
PROS
-
• Renewable source of energy
• Pairs well with other renewables
• Can meet peak electricity demand
Hydropower is energy produced from the force of moving water. This force can be extremely powerful and is driven by gravity. Hydropower plants use this energy to produce electricity.
cons
The energy is released by nuclear fusion
NUCLEAR HELPS POWER 28 U.S. STATES, NUCLEAR POWER PROVIDES 52% OF AMERICA'S CLEAN ENERGY
