Pathophys
ketosis: inability to metabolize glucose drives body into catabolic state. Breaks down fats to form acetyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA undergoes beta oxygenation in the mitochondria to make ATP and Betahydroxybuterate (bHB/ketone body)

hypokalemia: osmotic diuresis deplete body K. when insulin given, K is forced into cell. Additional K loss from vomit and diarrhea
On presentation: serum may be eukalemic b/c gaining K (K is locked out of cell, efflux from cell with dehydration) and loosing K (diuresis and GI loss)

trend sugars, correct accordingly, goal between 100 and 200
