ROLES OF A TEACHER IN INTENSIVE READING ACTIVITIES
ORGANISER
needs to tell the students exactly the purpose of their reading
give clear instructions about how to achieve it
explain how long they have to do this
how much time they have for the reading activity
change the time if necessary
OBSERVER
if he/she asks the students to read on their own, he/she should give them space to do so
restraining from interrupting that reading
observe their progress
this will give us valuable information about how well they are doing individually or collectively
FEEDBACK ORGANISER
when the students completed the task, he/she should lead a feedback session
check that the student has understood the task and has completed it successfully
compare their answers in pairs
ask for answers from the class in general or from pairs
students appreciate paired answers
sharing their knowledge
sharing their responsibility for the answers
PROMPTER
prompt students to notice language features within a text
direct them to certain features of text construction
clarifying ambiguities and making them aware of problems of text structure which they had not come across previously
