How does a search engine work?
- spider program / bot search web pages on the servers of Internet, extract information and create search index
- different search engines use different spider programs
- index and web pages are converted to database
- user enter search keywords and access program return results from database
- the search results are listed in an order based on an ranking algorithm (e.g. page rank)
