Clinical manifestations: Enlargement of thyroid gland,
Weight loss, agitation, restlessness, sweating, heat intolerance, diarrhea, tachycardia, palpitations, tremors, fine hair, oily skin, irregular menstrual cycle in women, and weakness
Diagnostic criteria: family history of autoimmune disease, thyroid disease, or emigration from an iodine-deficient location, physical exam revealing enlarged and slightly firm thyroid gland, and protrusion of eyes. Measurement of serum TSH level, and serume-free thyroxine
Treatment: Reduce thyroid hormone levels, radioactive iodine, medications, and sometimes surgery
