waves
-
backwash
when the waves run down the beach under the force of gravity
- pulled straight
- due to gravity
-
-
constructive waves
build up on the beach, low energy backwash strong swash, sediment is left on the beach
-
-
costal processes
erosion
- hydraulic power - corrasion and abrasion- solution - attrition
-
-
CASH
corrasion, abrasion, solition and hydraulicower
corrasion
the process of wearng away the river bed when rocks grind along the floor. like a sandpaper effect, it smooths down the rocks
abrasion
the process of wearng away the river bed when rocks grind along the floor. like a sandpaper effect, it smooths down the rocks
-
hydralic power
the power of the waves as they crash against the cliff trapping air and eventually causing the rock to break appart, this is how caves and arches are created
depositional landorms
-
-
long shore drift- swash comes in at an angle due to wind direction howevee the backwash comes back straight due to gravity
landforms created
spit
-
it is formed through the process of longshore drift , it can only be created from constructive waves
-
tombolo
a tombolo is a streach of sand or shingle that connects a mainland to anisland. it is not always visble as it can be covered in high tide.
weathering
biological weathering
the weakening and subsequent breakdown of rocks by plants and animals and microbes. growing roots can be an example if this as they cause stress and pressure on the rocksand eventually crack
physical weathering
thebreakdown of rocks through heat or cold. freeze thaw- when holes in rocks get water trappedinside them and they freeze, because water expands when it freezes, the hole is expanded as well. onion skin effect- when the rocks are taken of any water and they become dry and crack
chemical weathering
the chemicalsin salt, seawater, and rainfal will weaken the rock overtime
mass movement
cliff slumping are ocational rapid movements of mass of earth or rock dropping down along a concave plane
-
rotational slumps- ocur when a slump block composed of sediment or rock slides andlong a concave-upward slip surface
