CHAPTER 9
Sampling
The selection of some part of the population on the basis of which a judgement or inference about the entire population is made
-
Why sampling?
-
-
Contacting whole population is time consuming -> sampling saves time as the results can be produced at a faster speed
-
-
-
-
Sample, Subject and Sample Size
-
-
-
Sampling frame
-
Sampling unit
The element or set of elements that is available for selection in some stage of the sampling process
A frame may be
class list, list of registered voters, telephone book, employee list and map
Parameter and Statistics
-
Statistic
-
-
Value of statistics changes from one sample to the next => leads to a study of the sampling distribution of statistic
-
The Sampling Process
Major steps in sampling
-
- Determine the sample frame
- Determine the sampling design/technique
- Determine the appropriate sample size
When 1,2,3 and 4 is achieved, then we can execute the sampling process
