Lenin used the weaknesses of the provisional goverments inability to solve the land and war problem to propel the bolsheviks into popularity
the provisional goverment remained intact through the claim to being the representative of the febuary revoloution, Lenin looked to undermine this claim.
Lenins presence in petrograd on 7 october stiffened the bolshevik resolve,
however he was unable to create unity among the bolshevik party, with them not agreeing on a date to overthrow the provisional goverment

Lenin was a incredible public speaker, he radicalised the russians and pushed them towards the bolshevik party, this was successful not only because of lenin but also the korminov affair and the dwindiling sucess of other opposition groups such as the mensheviks. Because of this Lenin and his subordanates such as Trotsky where able to create a united opposition to the provisional govement, which was pivotal in there removal of the provisional goverment from pwoer.
