Grammatical word classes
(conjunctions, prepositions, pronouns, modals and so on) is that they are open-ended and can be added to readily.
Pronoun
possessive determiners (my, our, your, his, her, its, their)
Things that are clearly inanimate (cups, houses) are referred to as it (and any features they possess are indicated by its)
human beings are referred to according to gender as she or he, and their
possessions are similarly gendered: his or hers.
Determiner
Words that may be placed before the determiner in a noun phrase are a small number of pre-determiners
three main subclasses of determiner
articles
definite article, the, and the indefinite article
a(n).
demonstrative adjectives
this, these, that and those
possessive adjectives
Preposition
in, on, under, over, through, by, near, for, to, of
prepositional form is followed by the noun phrase
Conjunction
coordinating conjunctions
and, but, or
subordinating conjunctions
if, so, that, although,
then and so on
Auxiliary verb
made up of the modals (may, must, might and so
on), have (perfective) and be (progressive and passive).
