Learner's Role
It is a fact that the success in the pronunciation will depend on the enthusiasm that the student puts into it
on the other hand the student also needs
be able to self-evaluate and self-monitor in addition to having self-learning skills that allow you to learn for life
Sudent will know how to solve problems, be empathetic, flexible, creative and responsible.
Pronunciation Goals
Students planning to become English teachers will want to get as close as possible to having a native accent.
In English and many other languages we can make distinction between hearing and listening
Hearing requires more ears and Listening requires more work
Factors that affect pronunciation learning
Age factor
Age can affect the rate of learning; adults learn faster than children thanks to their greater cognitive abilities, but children have an easier time acquiring better levels of correction in pronunciation.
The native language
Because of the role that the mother tongue plays, it has been compared with others to help us identify problems that may arise.
Intelligibility
Intelligibility is being understood by a listener at a given time at a given situation.
Sources of Intelligibility problems
Sounds Substitutions
If a speaker substitutes one sound for another this may cause difficulties for the listener.
Sounds insertions
Non native speaker may add a sound.
Use of stress
Stress is the emphasis that can be given to certain syllables in a word, or to certain words in a phrase or sentence.
In English, stressed syllables are stronger than unstressed syllables.
