If water is made out of hydrogen and oxygen why can’t they just make water? Why do we have droughts? Investigate
What is desalination of water? Can we take the salt out of the sea to make fresh water? What are the benefits or issues around this idea?
Another idea is to take water from the Waikato River to top up the dam supplies. What filtration would this water have to go through? Can you make a water filter in class?
In Las Vegas, Nevada, USA they use ‘recycled water’ from their city for a number of different applications. What do you think of this idea?
How salty is the sea? Get a sample of sea water and evaporate the water from it. What weight of salt do you get from your sample? Can you recreate the same concentration with fresh water and table salt? Freeze a sample of the salt water you have made and the sample from the sea. Note any differences. Let the samples melt. Note any differences.
