Highlighting

You need to pause frequently to give your working memory time to process each bit of information before moving onto a new piece of information

Skipping "glue" words such as "and", "but" and "however" and focusing on content words that contain the main ideas of a text

Set a time goal to prevent this

Pay attention to the first and last sentence of each paragraph as well as any special formatting such as bolding and italics

Be selective with what you are highlighting

It is easy to mistake recognition with true recall when you highlight too many words in a text

Morse Code Method

Draw a dot next to interesting main ideas

Draw a dash next to an example or explanation that supports the main idea

Avoids slowing down while reading, which helps you to fully comprehend the text before reviewing it
