MALAYSIAN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Malaysian Federal government is the common government of Malaysia comprising :
3 Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan
Headed by Yang DiPertuan Agong (YDPA) as the head of state and Prime Minister as the head of government.
Federal government shares the national sovereignty with other 13 states government
The federal government administrative machinery is a combination of three major components set out by the constitution
The Federal Executive
A system of government under which government powers are divided between the central government and smaller governmental units (Rice, 2007).
a method of dividing the power between 2 levels of government
Any changes to the arrangement must be by amending the Constitution
Basic Features / elements of Federalism
The authority of a government is supreme in at least one or more areas that are assigned to it.
Both level of government have direct relations with its citizens.
Division of power based on a written constitution.
Both level of government draw their legitimacy from the people.
Either level of government cannot change this constitutional relationship or arrangement by itself.
Each government exists in its own rights and authority.
