Define these terms
Limiting factor
Something that slows or stops something from growing. For example some limiting factors for photosynthesis can be light intensity, carbon dioxide and temperature.
Glycogen
What human bodies store glucose as.
Exothermic
A reaction that gives off heat to surroundings.
Anaerobic respiration
The breakdown of glucose without oxygen.
Endothermic
A reaction that takes in heat from its surroundings.

Carbon dioxide + water --> glucose + oxygen
6CO2 + 6H2O --> C6H12O6 + 6O2

Leaf adaption
Large surface area so more light hits them.
Stomata which are openings on the leaves that let carbon dioxide in and oxygen put of the leaf.
Respiration
Aerobic and anaerobic respiration are the breakdown of glucose.
Aerobic
Glucose + oxygen --> carbon dioxide + water (+ energy)
Takes place in mitochondria
Anaerobic
Glucose --> lactic acid
What is produced by other organisms during this respiration and how do we use it?
Yeast and into ethanol (alcohol)
Cellular respiration
Important as it provides energy for the cells to perform their function.
Oxygen debt
The amount of extra oxygen needed to react with lactic acid in muscles and remove it from cells.
How is the liver involved in repaying the oxygen debt?
Lactic acid is taken to the liver by the blood and either oxidised to carbon dioxide and water or converted to glucose
Glucose
Ways a plant uses the glucose it makes:
Cellulose - Building cell walls
Starch - "Food" storage
Test for starch
Negative - Brown/ orange
Positive - Blue/ black
Iodine
How does the body respond to increased demands for energy during exercise?
While exercising the muscles need additional energy as the breathing rate has increases to bring more oxygen into the body and removing the carbon dioxide produced. The body performs anaerobic respiration to break down the glucose in muscles.
