4.4 Keywords and Definitions
Exclusivism
(The belief that) only one religion is true and avoiding people who follow other religions
Inclusivism
(The belief that) there is truth in all religions and welcoming and working with other people, whatever their religion
Multi-faith Society
Different religions living together in one society
Pluralism
The belief that a multi-faith/multi-ethnic society is desirable
Diversity
Different religions have different festivals and customs.
Prejudice
Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.
Identity
Religious identity is a specific type of identity formation.
Exclusivism
Exclusivism is where one religion believes it is correct and that all the other religions are wrong.
Inclusivism
Inclusivism is the idea that while there is one correct religion, this does not stop those who are not part of that religion from getting close to G-d.
Intra-faith Exclusivism
Intra-faith exclusivism means that one section of the religion believes it is correct, while believing that the other sections of the same religion are wrong.
Pluralism
Pluralism rejects the idea that G-d has revealed Himself only through one religion or one saviour.
Proselytisation
Proselytization is when someone encourages others outside their faith to become part of their faith.
Secularism
Secularists believe that everyone has the right to freedom of belief, whether that belief is religious or not.
Agnosticism
An agnostic is a person who claims to have no knowledge.
Athiesm
Without a belief in G-D
Humanism
Humanists do not accept any religious view of the universe.
Noachide Laws
a set of imperatives which, according to the Talmud, were given by G-d as a binding set of universal moral laws for the "sons of Noah" – that is, all of humanity.
