List the antacid agents and describe their mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, and adverse effect
-
Mechanisms of action
-
-
Responsible for neutralisation reaction of HCL to form a harmless salt which is Aluminium chloride and water
-
-
List the drugs used therapeutically to promote the defense of the GI tract from the effects of acid, and describe their mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, and adverse effects
-
Therapeutic Uses
-
-
Relieve symptoms of acid reflux, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
-
Mechanism of action
Lansoprazole
Lansoprazole's inhibition of hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphatase results in inhibition of both centrally and peripherally mediated gastric acid secretion.
-
Lansoprazole is a prodrug, that is activated in an acidic environment to the active form sulphenamide derivatives.
-
It provides prolonged inhibition of acid secretion due to their ability to bind covalently to their targets.
